This has been an idea of mine since I don’t remember when: to go and play the ancient game of hide and/or seek in a giant, sterile place, like the Toronto Reference Library. And that is just what we (Amy and I) did today. After meeting up at Finch Station, we headed down the Yonge line to Yonge-Bloor subway station and the five floored monster of a library. If anyone else has ever wanted to try ducking and running and sneaking all over the place with those batty librarians hawking over you, the TRL is the place to do it. We had almost an hour’s worth of alternating rounds of hiding and seeking all over the five floors and the worst we got was some confused-to-dirty looks from the onlookers.
I had some pretty sweet spots plotted out and I totally rocked the old “under the desk tucked away in an obscure corner of an annexed room with an edition of ‘The History of Vogue’ hiding the face” trick. Amy was genius enough to use the exact same annexed room on the second floor to hide from me on the round immediately after (I never thought of checking there).
I’d say heading out and doing this with one or more friends on a lazy afternoon could turn out to be quite a fun time for all parties excepting librarians and quiet studiers.
