Over the past (long) weekend I went away to go camping with my year of kids/people/friends from church at Balsam Lake. There wasn’t anything particularly earthshattering about the experience but that’s not always such a bad thing.
The weather wasn’t ideal but it was pretty exciting at some points (like when it started storming up and we had but the tarp Aaron, Benson, and I set up for cover). Mostly, though, it was a very wet affair, yet with some stellar breaks of sun in between. That, and it was always foggy at night, which added to the effect of the ghost stories.
It was a bit of a shame that though most of the graduating (from high school) class of 2008/kids born in 1990 could make it, Raf couldn’t (well, Melissa also couldn’t make it, which is a shame, but she’s not Raf). Raf came down with something nasty after having been very tired from all his work, and so he couldn’t make it out. I don’t remember the last time I got to go camping with Raf–I actually do, but just for effect, let’s pretend I don’t. It’s a shame, because I think things would have been much more interesting with Raf around to crack jokes with.
On the third (and last) night we had a big campfire and while burning off all the wood that was left (which was quite a bit), we as a group ended up playing Truth or Dare (which resulted in some mega craziness that took up most of the evening) and then having some time to do some serious sharing. I am surprised at how disgusting some of the things we made each other do were, including Benson licking the length of Henrick’s foot, Henrick giving a barehanded foot-rub to Edward, and then having Hannah lick Henrick’s feety hands. For myself, I think the weirdest thing was the nosing of body parts, if not the raspberries Josh blew on the back of my knee or Henrick on Aaron’s neck. All very sick stuff, guys. I don’t know who is worse, the ones who come up with these things (a lot were my ideas, actually) or the ones who agree to do them for the sake of the game.
In any case, that was about the most fun I’ve had with the 1990 Kids (aka; Team Foreskin, for some reason) in quite awhile. I don’t know when we’ll all get a chance to get together like that again**, but it was pretty damn okay spending the weekend together.
**A trip is actually in the works for next May, this time without Arthur and/or any other supervisors, which might make things better or worse, depending on how you look at it. I just hope I don’t have work when the time comes.
