5 things I’m learning about in my classes now:

  • Volumes of solids formed by revolution of functions’ curves about axes (Math 138 – Calculus)
  • Linear transformations and combinations of matrices (Math 136 – Linear Algebra)
  • Abstract Data Typing and designing functions that, for example, add numbers, without actually using the + function or numbers (Computer Science 136 – Elementary Algorithm Design and…)
  • Balance sheets, income statements and other accounting tools (Business 121 – Functional Areas of Business)
  • GDP, unemployment, and quality of life (Economics 140 – Introduction to Macroeconomics)

I am enjoying Linear Algebra lectures the most at this point (the instructor really knows his stuff and how to move people) but it’s also the class I feel most alien in, since it’s all fresh and human brains are not naturally predisposed to being good at solving simultaneous operations at once. Anyway, I should brush up on that.

I am disliking the Business portion of my course-load the most, mainly because I am not good at memorizing the vast expanse of terms and rules used by accountants (who follow something called GAAP–Generally Accepted Accounting Principles–and I won’t even bother making fun of what it could also stand for) for drafting up these balance sheets and income statements. I have new-found respect for my mom (the CGA), but even less interest in what she actually does (the CGA-ing).

For all the other courses, I can only say that I am more than glad I did IB and actually learned this stuff back then. Makes fooling around now much less harmful.
