A few days ago I ordered a pair of Howard Leight’s “Leightning LOF” (from Bilsom) professional grade sporting (read: shooting) earmuffs. Don’t ask how much it cost after shipping and handling.
A long time ago I promised Amy I would fix her pair of Sony headphones that her sister had sat on once. One of the two “arms” had snapped and the headphones could not be glued or repaired otherwise.
That’s when I suggested I would help her out and salvage the speakers, which still work wonderfully (well, as wonderfully as Sony audio equipment can). The two of us looked high and low for this specific model of earmuffs. You see, the LOF’s have snap-in, replaceable cushion pads. This means I can pop out the padding, insert the two speaker units into the cavities, and snap the cushions back in place, thus bringing renewed value to the broken ‘phones.
I am excited since I absolutely revel in this kind of DIY mischief. That, and I plan on borrowing the LOF’s for a bit to test their soundproofitude against my noisy residence neighbours above. I mean, I’ll have to fix the headphones in residence anyway, so I might as well try them out before I come back to town with them. In the meantime, Amy will continue to make due with my pair of theater grade JVC headphones for comfort + quality listening.
There’s something totally badass about wearing gun-shooting earmuffs for day-to-day activities.
