Well it is now time for a new year of new stuff/things/etc…

Last year (I can say that now) was pretty eventful, so for the first list of the new decade, let’s recap.

5 things that happened in 2010:

  • I spent my second coop work term at OpenText in the IT department and loved the atmosphere and people
  • My family and I found out that my dear old gramps was not well, and he passed away in November
  • I made up with Crystal, an old friend that I had refused to speak to for years
  • Had to live with girl(s) for the first time due to some last-minute arrangements and have learned that it actually isn’t hard or weird at all
  • As for tech:
    • Picked up the iPhone 4 at release, along with my cousin Herman
    • Got a working iPhone 4 a week or so later after a bunch of lemons and busing to Fairview Mall
    • Early 2008 Macbook Pro’s motherboard crapped out in November and would cost $900-1500 to fix
    • Picked up the 2010 Mac Mini (post-update) as an relatively cheaper-than-new-MBP replacement computer
    • Got into mechanical switch keyboards and now am the proud owner of a Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless Brown and a white HHKB Pro 2

Now that 2010 is over, I am actually quite pleased with everything. Sure, I am not exactly ecstatic about losing my grandfather or other unfortunate things like that, but I am fine with how those events unraveled and when they did. I wouldn’t change a thing about the year (except maybe my Statistics mark, ex-dee) because I have this feeling that 2010 was the year where a lot of growing up and cementing happened.

5 things I was trying to figure out throughout 2010:

  • what kind of person I would be when things don’t go as planned
  • what kind of work/company/job I would be involved with upon graduation
  • what kind of people I would rather know and be surrounded by
  • when to remain all original, and when to follow those who have gone before me
  • how/whether gracious indifference works in a practical sense

I said it before, but I am quite pleased to have met and re-acquainted myself with over the course of this year. Here’s another list, because it’s easier to do:

5 people I came to really appreciate this year:

  • I met Andrew and then later Grant in my WLU core and classes would have been anti-baller boring without these buddies
  • the one talk I had with Elaine was so relaxing last term when everything was going batshit crazy, she is probably the coolest girl from Jaffray to me
  • Connie and Ashna are such awesome housemates; I am rarely if ever lacking in cookies, alcohol, or chatty company when they are around
  • Amy tries her hand at everything (usually ROFL-stomping at it, apart from cookie baking) and is almost always around to plot world domination with me, and you just can’t beat that when it comes to girlfriends
  • I realized that a lot of what I am like now is due to the excellent and pragmatic tutelage I received from my high school Economics teacher, Mr. Meserre, who taught me the importance of properly allocating one’s scarce resources (such as words, time and attention), eliminating refuse and maximizing utility whenever possible

And finally, looking forward, there’s a whole bunch of stuff waiting to be considered and finalized this year.

5 things I need to do/try/look into in 2011:

  • what an”‘ECM Analyst” is responsible for at OpenText
  • what the hell kind of difference FLAC encoding + a pair of mid-range cans can make for an amateur audiophile like me
  • what to focus on for my respective majors for Math and Business before 4A
  • if/when I should do my G test before my G2 expires in Nov. 2011
  • what exams I should attempt upon graduation (currently considering the LSAT)

Not entirely sure what to expect of this coming year, but it can’t possibly be all that bad. I for one have every intention of letting what has been decided and finalized remain as such in 2011, while kicking enormous asses and taking ineffable names along the way.

As for 2010, a bunch of things happened and some people thought it was totally rad.
