5 video games that I have started but have actually never beat entirely:
- Final Fantasy III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X Part II, XII
I always seem to lose interest in the game about 20 hours after you unlock the airships that allow for travel all over the worlds. Suddenly being able to do (basically) all the side-quests sets me off on all sorts of weird, obsessive tangents (like collecting and fully upgrading all the legendary weapons for each character), until, days later, I forget where the main story left off and I lose interest in whatever outlandish thing happens in the 30 min cutscenes. Shortly thereafter, the game takes the backseat to something like Battlefield. In my defense, I fully beat FF X at least. - Dead Space 2
Anyone that knows me knows that I'm sort of a glutton for punishment, for pride's sake. This is no different when it comes to video games. I thoroughly enjoyed Dead Space (the first one) and found the second one to be just as excellent, so why didn't I finish? Well, instead of picking the Normal difficulty like a sensible human being, I selected the hardest available difficulty for my first pass through the game. Now, Dead Space is a game where you keep your gear across runs, so most people play through the game on Normal first, and then use their beefed up gear for a subsequent runs on harder difficulties. I didn't do that, and now I'm stuck maybe 20 hours into the first run through, saved just before facing like 20 necromorphs on Extreme or something, with a dinky little laser cutter and no ammo... (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ - God of War 2 (see comments on Dead Space 2 above)
- Pokémon
I have never completed the Pokédex because of the Battle Tower. Simple as that. - Bioshock
This is a somewhat non-linear type of RPG-shooter-survival game. As a result, I always got stuck when facing one of the Big Daddy bosses (see the picture above if you don't know what these are—it's the big thing with the drill, not the creepy little demon girl), and after dying about sixty times because I didn't follow a specific upgrade path, I gave up on the game. I still own it on Steam, so perhaps someday I will be able to restart it on a boss rig and finish the sucker.
