Sola Scriptura!

For all Christians reading this, it is my wish and hope that if we are all united in at least one thing, that it be in the affirmation of the authority, value, and validity of the Bible in each our of our lives. This is, after all, one of the five Solas of reformed Christian thinking so I would hope that we all agree on this.

Scripture is important, supremely important, since it is–IMO–the most direct and clear form of communication from God to mankind, bar none. Yes, there are other ways in which God might communicate with people, but none is clearer and more articulate than the Written Word of God.

Anyway, one night while I was reading through a book in the Bible (after hearing a provocative sermon about it), I remember coming across many passages that would be great as evidence for the reality of God’s grace. That’s when it struck me: I should make a list full of these Biblical references!

I’ve often found it hard to keep track of all the texts to quote when in heated discussions. It’s many times more convincing and clear when someone says “In Genesis 1:1 it says God was the One who created the heavens and earth.” as opposed to “The Bible says God made stuff.” This is a very silly example but I promise you, such a list would prove very useful, especially if assembled by people who come across these verses in their devotional readings. Keyword search engines tend to give far too many results (or none at all) and they are nearly all irrelevant to the pin point topic you’ve got in mind.

So, naturally, being the OCD person that I am, I have decided to make such a thing and make it available to all my readers. If you’ll head on over to my Scripture page, you’ll find a growing list of themes (bolded) and lists of passages that I’ve personally read and noted to relate quite directly to the themes. I really would like for this to be a team effort since the list would grow a lot quicker and span many more books (I currently have 99% of the quotes coming from my two favourite books, Romans and 1 Peter) if I got help (in the form of tips and suggested passages and/or themes) from you.

Don’t be shy! Email me with any passages that you think would fit nicely as a “key passage” for my Scripture page as you come along them in your devotional readings. I would really appreciate it. More importantly, I hope you’ll all find some use for this page in your own lives (whether it be for correcting, advising, rebuking, guidance, apologetics, etc…), that it will be able to serve you in your search for truth. Sola scriptura!
