I woke up this morning and my dad asked me when I wanted to get schooled in the ancient art of driving. This was quite a surprise to me since I didn’t think I’d start anytime soon even though I had contested fiercely that I really ought to start my lessons. If you don’t recall, I got my G1 license last November but I haven’t done anything in terms of insurance lessons or practical driving even though I should have. My mom refuses to let me go and drive the van with my dad since she’s paranoid and believes in the almighty power of the driving instructor emergency brake.
Now, I’ve got my first driving lesson this Wednesday, and it starts at 5 pm. Since I’ve got to be at church for LoaH by 6 pm… my instructor (who is John Leung’s dad) decided my lesson would end with my driving myself to church in time for LoaH. That’s a little nuts if you ask me. Driving for the first time is in itself a big deal but having to do this to someplace where I know the people is another thing altogether.
If you can’t tell, I’m actually pretty nervous about this. Since I’m guessing most people go for in-car lessons with at least a little bit of learning from their parents first, and also since I’ve had absolutely none of that, I’m going to really have to learn fast (or rely on my natural set of not half-bad motor skills) in order to avoid driving like an idiot. Then again, I have been playing a lot of Ridge Racer lately… so all might be well in the end. I’ve driven golf carts as an under-aged chauffeur to some ambassador from Malaysia at a golf tournament before so I think I’ll be alright in terms of avoiding obstacles, following roads and stuff like that. I’m just a little worried for the safety of all the other cars.
EDIT: I had no idea, but apparently this was the P.Pole’s 500th post. What a landmark! That is all. As you were.
