I decided I would review stuff on Sunday afternoon, but I ended up not getting around to it (I could afford to leave it to Monday). Coincidentally, my Half-Life 2 download finished Sunday night. Needless to say, I spent the greater part of my Monday grenading headcrabs (imagine the face-huggers of Alien but with host-controlling powers), flare torching zombies (“zomBQ”), and pegging Combines (pronounced with the stress on the first syllable, “COM-bine”). All in all, not a bad way to spend my long weekend Monday. That’s if you don’t count not studying anything and getting next to nothing done. Anyway, I plan on making a plush headcrab (or a whole army of them) to scale some time in the near future. Anyone wishing to help me make them with the right skills (i.e. hot seamstresses and/or pretty ladies) are welcome and invited to join me on my quest for headcrab revolution.

5 hot things about Tegan and Sara:

  • they are identical twins
  • they are Canadians
  • they both play guitar, sing, and write for their songs
  • they are–supposedly–lesbians (not so hot but worth mentioning)
  • they have dark, short hair

Tegan and Sara

Here’s “Back In Your Head” by Tegan and Sara for your (lesbian) listening pleasure–also check out their music video for “Speak Slow” on YouTube (link) as it’s pretty funny. They’ve got some very distinctly lesbian hair, if you ask me. Not a bad look though.

I just spent a good hour or so shooting up more zombies, headcrabs, and Combine soldiers to the beat and tune of Tegan and Sara (which was surprisingly satisfying). There’s very little I can say to accurately capture the euphoria of the moment where I launch a rifle grenade into a small room full of Combine soldiers who happen to be distracted, fending off a couple unhosted headcrabs and a “fast headcrab zombie” (as named in this reliable article), effectively blowing everything to kingdom come. That, or twitch buck-shooting (as in, with a BFSG–here’s a hint, the B stands for “big” and the SG stands for “shotgun”) a Combine/zombie/headcrab/anything in the face. Do video games make people violent? I personally think they bring out the best in all of us.

I’ve played a lot of games in my day and some day I expect I’ll probably do a summary, genre by genre, of my favourite titles from all over the place. I won’t bother today, but some day, just a sort of time capsule for myself and my (undecided number of) kids to look back on and say, “Hey, let’s play that again.”

In other probably more productive news, I’ve spoken to Mr. Usprech about my Extended Essay outline and my Theory of Knowledge paper. He loved my outline and also thought my TOK paper spectacular, so I’m feeling quite good (and motivated) about my papers. The TOK I don’t plan on changing at all between now and March (when it’s due) and the Extended Essay I plan on writing up a good draft soon. When I get a writing (as opposed to topic deciding) epiphany, I will likely spill my thought-process guts and it will probably be over and done with in a day or two. That’s how I normally write anything (essays, commentaries, articles, presentations, you name it) and I don’t see why I should change that, even if this essay is considerably longer and heftier than previous ones. 4000 words is like a long-ish blog post, I guess.
