This last weekend has been a killer one, with drawing stuff with Moyee, carving a Rubik’s cube pumpkin (also with Moyee’s help), and hurriedly finishing an organic Chemistry assignment, along with tutoring and some miscellaneous tasks. I feel much better now that it’s over but I’m afraid this coming week will be a little killer as well (yearbook deadline and the usual scholastic pursuits) so I am already looking forward to rest and fun at Yam’s this Friday for small group.

5 updates about everything “Carl”:

  • I got my G2 driver’s license last Friday afternoon (exactly 2 days shy of a year after getting my G1 license last year). I’ve been talking for the past few days as if I have suddenly sprouted interna-combustion wings (which I haven’t really). My parents still need to get insurance for me before I can start driving the family car (which is actually a van) so I’ve still got a bit more to wait. I also need to learn how to drive a van since it’s quite a bit larger than the Corolla I learned from and did my exam in. This is where I wish I had better lines of communication between myself and my father so as to be able to get him to teach me the quirky things I ought to know when driving the van instead of, say, me finding them out in a more disastrous manner.
  • I’ve begun to slowly integrate (as well as avidly expand) my acoustic collection back into my daily listening. My interest in more mellow and melodious musicks was brought about by a variety of factors, but mostly by (oddly enough) listening to the Planets tracks (by Holst) in Herman’s car and constantly sharing material from my previously dubbed “Wussy” section.
  • I have moved past the phase of dressing like a slob (I’ll still do it, but less) and now aspire to be a little more tidy, though definitely not more prissy, with how I dress. I’ve been slowly getting rid of/fixing all my tattered and frayed pants and have been wearing less oversized tees and more fittingly sized shirts. I don’t really think the baggy-clothed look is suitable for someone such as myself (I’m not saying it’s a lowlier way to dress, by the way, just not a style I’m too fond of overdoing).
  • I now understand a little better what it means to respect someone without necessarily liking them as a person. This is most important for the way I relate to some of my teachers this year. Although I associate none of them with nearly as much disdain as I’ve had for the likes of Quejada or Olsheski, there are some things I don’t particularly understand about some of them but I have decided I would assume the best in them and learn from them as humbly as I can. I actually started with more than just a little dislike for two of my teachers this year but they’ve turned out to be quite interesting people (one’s a cool-geek and the other isn’t so bad once you start taking extra precautions to be particularly polite).
  • I am now trying to sleep a little more. Though some conversations may drag on late into the night, I’ve been trying to get at least the optimum amount of sleep per night (around 8 hours for me based on my experiences) since it really does help me think more clearly and work more productively. A clear mind is a sane one.
