To ring in the new year (which is actually now three days old) most people will make a list of resolutions, feel-good goals that generally never actually come to fruition. But even if they are never actually carried out, they do serve some sort of purpose. I think making resolutions generally helps people get over the old year by looking for the new year.
I for one don’t tend to make new year’s resolutions (or at least, I’m not making any definite ones for this year). I mean, I’ve got an idea what this year ought to be like for me in terms of relational, academic, and spiritual pursuits (which, I’m starting to think, aren’t so compartmentalized anymore). Having the general direction home is better than making a list of pit-stops to make, I think.
