5 surprises I recently had:

  • See last night’s post. Sweet surprise.
  • For my English oral exam, I randomly picked the same passage that I already did a presentation on in class (1 out of about 30). Thoroughly easy-going, that exam was, since I didn’t have to actually think much. Revision in twenty minutes for a ten minute presentation re-do I can most certainly awesome. Syntactic surprise.
  • The Chemistry exam turned out to be mostly straightforward with only a slight hiccup. Of course, this was a massive, many-point, hemorrhage-inducing hiccup. Something along the lines of “Draw two Lewis diagrams for N3H and name the hybridization.” NH3? No problem. N3H? That’s like an aneurysm in a can. Needless to say, I skipped this one until the end, but that didn’t really help much. Upon post-exam converse (which is what IB kids excel at), I learned that pretty much no one knew how to do that question. Retarded typo, or genius confusion device?! You decide! Synthesis surprise.
  • Biology, the dreaded RAM-hog, turned out to not be quite as challenging as I thought. Pleasantly surprised! It was actually quite nuts. I finished the multiple-choice section (Paper 1) way ahead of time and began doodling and listing everything I still remembered from reading it a night before onto the cover of Paper 2. I was told I would never get marks for notes scribbled (duh) but I figured I’d be getting marks for it when I forget it minutes later upon actually starting Paper 2. Anyway, that went well enough and I’m glad I studied for understanding and not just memorization. S. pneumoniae surprise.
  • I had applied for universities way back in December via the OUAC site, but apparently I had not submitted an email. I got letters from Waterloo and McMaster asking for me to do so, and so I did. But apparently, I didn’t do it properly (and had no idea) so I went another few weeks until just the other day when I checked the OUAC site and it was brought to my attention that I was still unlisted as far as emails were concerned. After a few minutes of wondering about the possibilities I might have already missed, I promptly finished submitting properly. Done and done. Stupid surprise.

Surprises! Everywhere! Also, I’m sounding more and more like T-Rex from Dinosaur Comics. Could I be reading too many of them!? What an excellent course of inquiry! MOST excellent.
