My English class was an extended period today, lasting an extra 45 minutes to allow for a full, two hour mock English exam. All we were given was a sight-poem and two hours to work some serious analytical magic. Long-story shortened, I wrote out nine pages of, what I think was, awesome. I sat down and finished my analysis in fifteen minutes and spent the next hour and forty-five writing like a mad-man. I finished with time to spare and reams of commentary. It was a splendid way to finish school hours of a wonderful day.
There is something about poetry that I enjoy–probably the strong language and combining of incongruent images into things that actually make sense. Concerning the technical aspects of writing and reading it: I enjoy them in their rightful place. I don’t like it when people over-technical things and take the fun out of it, and the same applies to poems. It’s fun to find neat things like rhyme patterns and infer what the poet might mean by rhyming “leavened love” with “heaven above”, but getting bogged down with hyper-details isn’t my style.
Anyway, I’ve got a few ideas backed up and want to try my hand at writing as soon as I’ve got a large chunk of undisturbed time to work with. Sadly, one of my two ideas I don’t plan on letting my average reader read (oh well, not a big loss for anyone really).
In conclusion, I just wanted to stick in a mini-blurb about my mock English exam and how I dominated it. Have a good day.
