To get a feel of what awesomeness this is, please listen to the following song by them, called “Your Hand In Mine” (attendees of Moyee + Herman’s wedding reception may recall that this song was used, at least in part, for the slideshow I put together for them).

Their sound is best described as “transcendental and ethereal, instrumental astro-rock” and they are from Texas. I made a recording of the night with my trusty iPhone in my pocket and it turned out pretty awesome, but for size and time reasons (it’s 1.5 hours of MP3 epicness) I probably won’t throw it up. It’s also filled with the cheering of the over-excited fans that I didn’t find nearly as annoying live as I do now, when listening to the recording.

Instead, I’ve taken the time to take this tab of “Your Hand In Mine” (intended for three guitarists to play in tandem) and transcribe it into something approachable with a 5-string bass. My next steps will be to learn all three parts, see how they are supposed to layer together, and then eventually (and hopefully) find a way to collapse all three guitar parts into a unified bass cover of the song. Yeah, don’t expect any recording of that to see the light of day anytime soon, but when I finally accomplish it, you can bet this will be the first place I’ll go to show it off.

I’ll probably upload my transposed version for fellow bassists to attempt, before I do the combination and synthesis work. That’s the only truly inspired part (transposing it is just a bit of addition/subtraction and typing).
